(Reuters) -Tesla's (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk has assumed oversight of sales in Europe and the U.S. following the high-profile departure of Omead Afshar, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The reported exit of Afshar — a longtime confidant of Musk — comes amid slumping demand in Europe and North America for Tesla's aging vehicle line-up. Meanwhile, rivals have offered more affordable alternatives.
Two people familiar with Tesla's operations told Reuters that Afshar was among the executives who took on bigger roles this year when Musk was focused on Washington.
The feud that followed between Musk and President Trump reignited overnight. The president once again threatened to cut government subsidies across Elon Musk’s businesses, including Tesla and SpaceX (SPAX.PVT).
Meanwhile, Tesla's sales slump in Europe continued in June, which saw sales decline over 60% in Sweden and Denmark. The EV maker is set to report on global deliveries on Wednesday, with Wall Street expecting a slide of 11% from the prior year.
