Aldi strengthens leadership with McGrath as US CEO to drive growth
Grocery retailer Aldi has revealed a shift in its executive leadership, with Atty McGrath to become CEO of Aldi US.
The move comes as current CEO Jason Hart transitions to the position of group chief operating officer (COO) for Aldi South, where he will supervise worldwide operations while McGrath assumes charge of the rapidly expanding grocery chain in the US.
Hart will commence his new role based in Salzburg, Austria from 1 September 2025.
During Hart’s tenure as CEO, the company has seen its US store count almost double from 1,300 stores across 32 states to 2,500 stores in 39 states.
Aldi has established itself as the fastest-growing grocer in the country and is noted for prioritising employees, committing to sustainability efforts and offering the lowest prices among national grocery stores.
Hart stated: "The growth and positive development of the Aldi brand we've achieved together in the US is a tribute to our incredible teams across the business. I look forward to working with Aldi teams around the globe to drive our growth and success."
Atty McGrath has been with Aldi for her entire 20-year career. Her journey includes roles as a district manager, director of operations, division vice-president and most recently, chief operating officer.
McGrath stated: "I am excited to build upon our momentum, expand our footprint and continue adapting to serve our customers."
The company plans to open 800 new stores up to 2030. In 2025, Aldi aims to set a record by opening 225 new locations.
By early June it has already inaugurated 55 new stores and is poised to open another 75 during the summer.
These new stores will be spread across both emerging markets such as Arizona, California, Florida and South Carolina, and established regions, including the Midwest and Northeast.
In May 2025, Aldi began the construction of its third distribution hub in Poland to expand its logistical footprint.
