Jinko ESS and METLEN form 3GWh utility-scale BESS partnership
Energy storage company Jinko ESS has entered a frame agreement with energy company METLEN to implement more than 3 gigawatt hours (GWh) of utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) across Chile and European markets.
The agreement leverages Jinko ESS's advanced G2 Utility systems technology and METLEN's expertise in global energy solutions to tackle vital grid stability issues.
The deal builds upon their ongoing 1.6GWh project in Chile, anticipated for full delivery by the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2025.
Jinko ESS CEO Fangkai Zhou stated: "METLEN's proven energy infrastructure capabilities and Jinko ESS's technological innovation create an unmatched value proposition for grid operators.
“This framework ensures long-term supply security while accelerating the clean energy transition in strategic markets.”
The agreement highlights the commitment of both companies to facilitate the adoption of renewable energy through advanced storage solutions.
METLEN's M Renewables executive director Nikos Papapetrou stated: "By joining forces with Jinko ESS, we are combining cutting-edge storage technology with our expertise to unlock large-scale, resilient energy infrastructure.
“METLEN is a global leader in green energy, with an overall 12.7 GW pipeline in various stages [and] locations and more specifically 2.6 GW in storage, proving its longstanding efforts to advance energy transition."
In May 2025, METLEN signed six engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts in the UK for five solar parks and one BESS, with a combined capacity of 313.4MW.
The overall value of the contracts is £110m ($147.64m).
In April 2025 Glenfarne agreed to acquire four utility-scale solar assets and associated BESS facilities in Chile from Metlen Energy & Metals.
The acquisition comprises 588MW of operational solar capacity and 1.61GWh of BESS currently under construction.
"Jinko ESS and METLEN form 3GWh utility-scale BESS partnership" was originally created and published by Power Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.
